Dr. Vafa has been performing Sculptra treatments in New York City for over a decade, with an approach centered on facial structure, collagen stimulation, and gradual, natural-looking rejuvenation.
Sculptra treatments
harness the power of your own collagen
Dr. Vafa is widely recognized as an early adopter of collagen-stimulating injectables, and one of the top Sculptra providers in the world
Dr. Vafa's approach combines a deep understanding of facial anatomy with an artistic eye, allowing him to consider the face globally rather than treating individual lines or folds in isolation.
At vafaMD, Sculptra is used to gradually rebuild structural support by stimulating the body's own collagen production. The focus is on balance, proportion, and subtle restoration—results that develop over time while preserving natural expression.
what is sculptra?
Sculptra is a biostimulatory injectable made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Unlike traditional hyaluronic acid filler, which provides volume directly, Sculptra works by stimulating the body's own collagen production over time.
As new collagen develops, Sculptra can gradually improve structural support, firmness, contour, and the appearance of age-related volume loss. Results emerge progressively rather than all at once.
The vafaMD Signature Sculptra Approach
01 — Structural placement
Strategic treatment designed around facial architecture and proportion.
02 — Multi-plane collagen stimulation
Treatment across appropriate facial zones and tissue planes to support gradual, global rejuvenation.
03 — Thoughtful treatment pairing
When appropriate, Sculptra may be sequenced with other injectable, laser, or energy-based treatments as part of a broader treatment plan.

The Sculptra results timeline
-
Mild swelling is common immediately after Sculptra and may temporarily create the appearance of added volume. This typically subsides as the water used to reconstitute the product is absorbed.
-
Early changes may begin to become noticeable as collagen production develops. Results appear progressively—not suddenly.
-
Collagen development continues, with facial structure gradually appearing more supported and refreshed. Additional sessions may be scheduled around this stage when appropriate.
-
Collagen remodeling continues beyond the initial treatment period, so results may continue to evolve over the following months.
Sculptra aftercare: the importance of massage
After Sculptra, gentle massage helps distribute the product throughout the treated area. Following your provider's massage instructions is an important part of Sculptra aftercare.
At vafaMD, our current protocol is to massage the treated areas for 5 minutes, twice a day, for one week following treatment.
Mild tenderness, swelling, or bruising may occur after treatment. Continue to follow the aftercare instructions provided by your clinical team and contact the office with any concerns.
To make post-treatment massage easier and more comfortable, we developed BIOSÈME, a water-activated arnica massage cream designed specifically for Sculptra aftercare. When activated with water, the cream creates a smooth glide for gentle massage while supporting skin hydration and comfort.
What to expect from your Sculptra treatment
Treatment Time:
15 mins. (+ optional 30 min. numbing time)
comfort:
Topical numbing and lidocaine may be used to maximize comfort.
Downtime:
Mild swelling, tenderness, or bruising may occur following treatment. For patients who experience bruising, vafaMD offers a complimentary bruise-focused laser treatment when clinically appropriate. Contact the office for guidance or scheduling.
Initial treatment series:
Most patients begin with a series of approximately 2–3 treatment sessions, often spaced around two months apart. The number of sessions and amount of product used are individualized.
Maintenance:
Maintenance is individualized based on anatomy, age, goals, and the initial treatment plan. An annual maintenance session may be recommended for some patients.

Traditional hyaluronic acid fillers provide volume directly and can create a more immediate change. Sculptra works differently: it stimulates your body's own collagen production, so results develop gradually over time.
Neither approach is inherently better; the appropriate treatment depends on your anatomy, goals, and treatment plan.
-
Sculptra results develop gradually as collagen production increases. Some patients begin noticing changes within several weeks, with continued improvement over the following months. Timing varies depending on the individual and treatment plan.
-
Many patients begin with approximately 2–3 treatment sessions, often spaced around two months apart. The number of sessions and amount of Sculptra used depend on factors including anatomy, degree of collagen loss, treatment area, and desired outcome.
-
Sculptra can last up to 2 years. Maintenance treatments may be recommended over time based on your goals.
-
Sculptra is designed to create gradual change through collagen stimulation rather than immediate volume. At vafaMD, treatment is planned conservatively around facial structure, proportion, and the individual's anatomy, with the goal of maintaining natural expression.
-
Sculptra may be appropriate for patients looking to address age-related collagen loss, changes in facial support, or skin quality through a gradual approach. Candidacy depends on anatomy, medical history, treatment area, and individual goals and should be determined during consultation.
-
Yes, Sculptra may be incorporated into a broader treatment plan that includes other injectables, laser treatments, or energy-based treatments such as Sofwave. The appropriate combination and sequencing depend on your goals and will be determined by your provider.
