SKINPEN MICRONEEDLING
Collagen induction for smoother, stronger, more refined skin.
SkinPen® is a medical microneedling device designed to activate the skin's natural remodeling response. By creating precise, controlled microchannels in the skin, treatment initiates a natural healing process that supports collagen remodeling and progressively improves skin texture and quality.
At vafaMD, SkinPen treatments are customized by area, skin quality, and concern — from overall skin refinement to targeted treatment of acne scarring and textural irregularities.
CONTROLLED INJURY. NATURAL REMODELING.
SkinPen uses a sterile cartridge of fine microneedles to create controlled micro-injuries at customized depths within the skin. These microchannels activate the body's natural wound-healing response, initiating a remodeling process that supports new collagen formation and improved skin structure over time.
Unlike RF microneedling, SkinPen does not deliver heat or radiofrequency energy into the tissue. The treatment relies on mechanical microneedling and the skin's own regenerative response.
Sofwave treats common Concerns such as:
Acne scars
Uneven skin texture
Enlarged-looking pores + Dull Skin
Fine lines
Neck lines
Rough or irregular texture
Overall skin quality
Patients seeking collagen-focused treatment without laser or RF energy
What to expect:
Treatment Time:
Approximately 45–60 minutes, including numbing time.
Downtime:
Typically 1–3 days.
Redness and mild swelling are common immediately after treatment and may resemble a mild sunburn. Skin can feel tight, dry, or slightly rough as it recovers over the following few days.
Most patients return to their normal routine quickly, although the skin should be treated gently while the barrier recovers.
Comfort Level:
Very manageable.
Topical numbing cream is applied before treatment. Most patients describe a light prickling or vibrating sensation, with certain areas — particularly the forehead — feeling slightly more sensitive.
FAQ
-
No. SkinPen uses mechanical microneedling to create controlled microchannels and activate the skin's natural remodeling response. RF microneedling also delivers radiofrequency energy beneath the skin. Both stimulate collagen, but they use different mechanisms and may be recommended for different concerns.
-
Treatment plans are individualized, but a series of approximately three treatments spaced about four weeks apart is commonly recommended. Acne scarring or more significant textural concerns may require additional treatments.
-
SkinPen does not rely on pigment as a target or use heat-based energy. SkinPen Precision is FDA-cleared for the treatment of facial acne scars in adults 22 and older across Fitzpatrick skin types I–VI. Your provider will still assess your skin, medical history, and treatment goals before recommending treatment.
-
SkinPen creates controlled microchannels mechanically, without laser energy or heat. Laser resurfacing uses light-based energy to target specific layers or components of the skin and can offer a different level of correction and downtime. Your provider can help determine which approach is better suited to your skin and goals.
-
Yes. At vafaMD, SkinPen may be paired with PDGF as an optional regenerative add-on. Your provider can recommend whether adding PDGF makes sense based on your skin, treatment goals, and overall plan.
